Hello my name is Chad Burgin and I am using this campaign to start my own business in automotive restoration.
Let me tell you a little bit about my self. I am 38 years old. I have been married for 9 years. I am unemployed with a disabled wife. We live in northern Utah. I am a graduate of Bridgerland Applied Technology College with a certificate in Diesel Heavy Machinery. I have been working on cars for most of my life. I love working on cars. I always have.
This really is an opportunity for my Dad and I. We have always wanted to restore cars . He was a telephone man till he retired. He is where I got my love for fixing up cars. He is a great body guy. When it comes to looks he is the guy. Im the more mechanical one. My main focus lies in rebuilding and electrical. You cant work on new cars unless you can talk to the on board computers.
OK down to business. How much money are we looking to raise. $25,000. What is this funding going towards? Equipment. Yes for some of the tools we need. To save money Im planning on getting almost all the equipment used.
There is not much time left in my campaign. I beg you please if you can donate anything. All donations are appreciated If everyone can donate a little, we can get there. Every dollar helps.
Got Pluged on www.fark.com and wanted to address some questions that where asked.
Before asking for money, you need to have a plan. $25,000 won't last
long after you've bought the equipment, so how do you plan on getting
work in your shop. Having an awesome set of tools doesn't do you any
good if you have no clients.
We are using the $2500 to set up the shop. Not to pay us. And we have work lined to to start right away.
I do have a few jobs lined up. And have done a few. I have a 63 beetle we are going to restore and a mint 81 510 with a 460 we are going to hotrod. Then 3 bikes. A 78 Yamaha dirtbike. Cant remember the model bit its built in France. A 84 Ninja and a 68 Honda 305. And you always get the tune up here and there or engine rebuild. Mainly friends. And friends tell friends.
How many cars/trucks/motorcycles
have you restored already? I'm assuming that you've done some in your
garage.already. Do you have pictures of your work? Testimonials from
past clients? Show winners or other awards?
No no show
winners. Not really doing that high of restore in the beginning. Its
tough out there. Dont get me wrong. I have a few restores mild Hotrods.
But they for me over the years and I dont really have any pics. Wish I
Now, how much will
you charge for a restoration? Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
How long does it take for a restoration? How many restorations do you
have to do per month to give yourself a salary? How much do you need to
live on per month? How much money does your dad need to make from
this? I don't know if you've asked yourself these questions already,
but you need to have answers for this before you run out and buy a
crapload of equipment.
In cases like this u bid for the job. Then Thats with labor included. So its kind of both. You look at the car and figure how many hours it will take. And overhead. In the end we need to make enough to pay taxes, utility's,and consumables. Im kind of a believer of flat rate. The business will be at my house in my large shop.(No Rent) We are not looking to be a really busy shop. We are not going to have cars coming in and out all day. Then for some repairs I will come to you. The goal is 1 restore a month. Really 2 1 being finished and one just coming in. Alot of the cars will be cars we repair and fix up and sell. There are people out there that have old cars and want them new. Does not have to be a 68 Mustang. What about a 78 bug. All the shows you see focus on big jobs. That are going to auction or some guy paying 200,000 for a crazy custom car. What about the guys that want a 350 pt in there s10? Its more than just restorations. Its also custom
A full restoration. Well that depends. What condition the body is in. How much body replacement is needed. I would say 30 to 60 days. We want to get them in and out. And with my body/paint guy we can.
Also, really evaluate the type of
equipment that you need right away. A tire balancer? Really? How many
cars do you plan to work on per week? You can just pay the local tire
shop down the street to do mounting and balancing and use that money to
buy yourself some other tools. A lift would be nice, but do you need a
brand new one or can you buy them used?
How much would we make. I Figure one thousand a month. It can and will fluctuate.Does not need to be a whole lot. But if we do a good job. That amount will go up. And we have talked about this at great length. Of what we want to do what we can do and who can help when needed
Im looking for almost 100% used tools.
And if you look I also ask for tool donations.
Yes need a larger tool box to store and organize the tools and shop. When you know where everything is, the job goes faster.
Tire balancer. yes. a used set i found is only aprox 2000. I can get set on ebay for 1500. See thats something that we can make back quick. When you are from a shop and bring tires to mount and balance you are at there mercy. It could ake 30 min.It could be a day. I know how to do it and its just easier to have it here.
And no. Im looking for a USED lift. Dont need to pay new prices for anything.
Once you've answered all of those questions and have a business plan, then maybe you can go to a bank to get a loan.
Loan equals fail. Its just harder for a loan. Causes alot of stress. And Im trying to do this for my dad and wife so we can get stress out of our life.
And then your talking renting space. Have to have higher overhead. We are doing this from home. My wife has physical and mental disability's. My dad is almost 70. he does not want to go to work every day. He wants to go out to his shop and work
Maybe this will help.
I am a experienced mechanic working on cars for 20 years. Mainly on older vehicles. Till I received my certificate for Bridgerland Applied Technologies college In Diesel, heavy Machinery equipment. But I mainly focused on the electrical systems. My dad is a body work guy. He can design and fabricate almost anything. And is very good with interiors. All the small details.
My dad can fabricate almost anything. With the right tools. We are both trained welders. Im a trained Diesel mechanic that specialty is computers and electrical. I can from a schematic build you a correct (with the correct period wire) build you a complete wire harness. Or a custom one. Then get your Chevy computerized Chevy 350 to correctly run in a Jeep. With minimal issues. Weld in your replacement panels. Custom powdercoat all your knobs, handles and dash. Replace your interior. Custom paint the whole thing. And out the door. We can do this because we have. We are new to the game. But hell WE WILL DO IT- See more at: http://fundanything.com/en/campaigns/automotive-restoration#sthash.jTnXYIOE.dpuf

This is really so I can work with my dad and be home more with my disabled wife and retired mother. Dont get me wrong this will be a full time business. We just love to work on cars. Restoring a car to new shape or customizing a vehicle is art. Taking an old rusted car and bring it back to new for a new generation to enjoy. Its what I like to do.
Contributors will also get full advantage of our expertise. We have discount programs for our contributors.
This is for a restoration business. We will be rebuilding and restoring cars trucks vans motorcycles everything. We will be rebuilding there motors. Personally like to get the older motors as clean as possible. The only way these older cars will be around for another 50 years if we have them run clean.
This is to restore cars trucks and vans. We already have a 73 Volkswagen Bug we want to start on when we can get some of the tools we need.
I am also looking for donations of tools and equipment. So please if you have any of the equipment needed and you would like to donate it. Please contact me. is.
Any Donation is appreciated. Does not matter how much it. All Im asking for is people donate what they can to help.
Again thank you all for taking a look. I appreciate it
